Modern Oriental Simplicity

Residential House

Combining traditional oriental elements with modern design

Rooms are not just spaces; they are habitats for human beings, places of relaxation and tranquility. In the case of the Modern Oriental Simplicity project, two units have been merged to create a spacious apartment designed for a three-generation family. The symmetrical rectangular layout allows for the arrangement of private spaces, such as bedrooms, on both sides, while the central area houses the public spaces, including the living room, two kitchens (Chinese and Western style), and dining room. This layout fosters strong family bonds and relationships. The overall theme of the space is "modern orient" and "simplicity."

What sets the Modern Oriental Simplicity design apart is the incorporation of traditional oriental elements in a modern design style. The aim is to pass on traditional culture while simplifying unnecessary elements and focusing on essential needs. The design embraces all cultural differences and creates a harmonious blend of the old and the new.

The realization of the design is achieved through a combination of artistic and technological techniques. In the entranceway, a marble wall behind a Guanyin statue creates a divine ambiance, with the light from Buddha shining through. Solid wood installation art extends from the ceiling to the floor, resembling a musical instrument that produces pleasant music. The graceful curves and reflections in the mirror add a soft touch to the entranceway. Metal grilles combined with slate bars create an interesting shape reminiscent of a xylophone, inviting guests to play a wonderful song. These flowing lines embody the design concept, incorporating softness, curves, instruments, music, and pictures, while showcasing a modern aesthetic.

The design of the Modern Oriental Simplicity project allows for different interactions within the space. The spacious living room is a place for guests to chat and laugh, while the tea room offers a more serene atmosphere. A wing-shaped chandelier made of metal wire illuminates the tea room, and a golden shrine stands majestically, guarding the home throughout the day. The long corridor features a wall that resembles a Chinese ink wash painting, with ink blots and smooth brush strokes expressing the spirit of the Orient. The flexible space configuration is achieved through the opening and closing of doors.

The design of the dining room wall draws inspiration from the concept of the multi-treasure cabinet in the Qing Dynasty, combining storage, display, and collection. This project aims to enhance the homeowner's quality of life, as they have achieved great success in their career. The Modern Oriental Simplicity design allows the homeowner to enjoy a cozy life with their family and create lasting memories.

The Modern Oriental Simplicity project faced creative, technical, and research challenges. The design is presented in a black and white color scheme, incorporating traditional Chinese elements such as painting, music, and poetry into a modern minimalist style. The result is a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, creating a unique and captivating living space.

This exceptional design, Modern Oriental Simplicity, was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Modern Oriental Simplicity design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
